This 2024 Nissan GTR T-Spec Takumi Edition is one just 50 examples created exclusively for the North American market, and was purchased by none other than David Woodhouse, the VP of Nissan Design America (NDA). Created as a part of the last hurrah for the GTR, the T-Spec Takumi Edition gained special equipment and options over its lesser siblings. The striking Midnight Purple paint finish, inspired by the color that first appeared on the R33 Skyline GTR, changes colors from purple to green depending on what angle you view the car from. The Mori Green leather interior, a gold VIN plate, along with RAYS gold forged wheels with wider front fenders, and GT-R NISMO carbon ceramic brakes with special NISMO-tuned Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) all add to the final send off of the GTR. But the Takumi Edition is something more special than that.
“Takumi” is a Japanese term meaning “artisan”, “skilled craftsman”, or “master”, which describes the engine builders for the Takumi Edition. Just 5 individuals carry this unique qualification, who in part build the Nissan’s engine to an extreme degree of tolerance. The individual who builds the engine puts their own name plaque on the front of the 3.8L V6 twin-turbo engine, to remind you that the powerplant is hand assembled by the same person not as a part of an assembly line, but from beginning to end by one person. The Takumi Edition’s engine is built to even tighter tolerances than normal GTRs, ensuring that the engine is specially tuned for performance. This edition honors those craftsmen who are the best at what they do after years of dedication and effort.
David Woodhouse, a longtime Director of Global Strategic Design for Ford and Lincoln’s Design Director, was hired by Nissan to become their VP of Nissan Design America, based in San Diego, CA. An avid automotive enthusiast who regularly races his own cars, being a part of NDA was an exceptional time for him. When it was announced that the Nissan GTR’s last hurrah was in the form of the T-Spec Takumi Edition, David knew that he wanted to have one. Having driven several of them on the road during his time at Nissan Design America, he felt that they were timeless automobiles and drove exceptionally well, blending an analog and digital experience. At a dinner at Pebble Beach for Nissan, he sat beside a Nissan executive and inquired if he would be able to get one, to which they said of course and provided the contact who could help him. Just two weeks before he would end up purchasing this car, his contact said that he had just one left and if he still wanted it, which of course he did.
Upon taking delivery, David knew that he wanted to keep the car in factory-new condition. He ended up keeping the car in his studio on display, intending that eventually he would drive the car and enjoy it fully while putting many miles on it. However, these future plans took a different path as David and his family decided to move back to the U.K. after Nissan closed down the Nissan Design America studio, leaving the Nissan GT-R T-Spec Takumi Edition to find itself a new lucky owner.
With just 26 miles on the odometer from factory testing and setup, the car is in new condition, like it just came off the Nissan showroom floor. The color-shifting Midnight Purple metallic paint was in perfect condition, as was the Mori Green leather interior with the mat protectors still attached. Included with the car are its original window sticker, owner’s manuals, and original delivery documentation. With only 50 examples built and was the final production year of the Nissan R35 GT-R, this is one of the most collectible modern GT-Rs with performance that still rivals the upper echelon of supercars.
About the Nissan R35 GT-R
The Nissan R35 GT-R, famously nicknamed "Godzilla," debuted in 2007 as a standalone supercar that broke away from the historic Skyline lineage. It quickly became a global phenomenon by offering performance that rivaled European exotics—such as the Porsche 911 Turbo—at a significantly lower price point. At its core is the VR38DETT, a hand-assembled 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine produced by "Takumi" master craftsmen. This powerhouse, paired with a rear-mounted six-speed dual-clutch transmission and the advanced ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive system, allowed the R35 to achieve blistering 0-60 mph times, often clocked in under 3 seconds in later iterations.
Throughout its lengthy production run, which spanned nearly 18 years until 2025, the R35 underwent continuous evolution rather than a complete redesign. Early models produced roughly 480 horsepower, while the final NISMO editions pushed that figure to 600 horsepower. Beyond its raw speed, the GT-R gained a reputation for its "digital" driving feel, utilizing a sophisticated array of sensors and a customizable multi-function display—designed in part by the creators of the Gran Turismo video game—to provide real-time performance data. Its combination of brutal acceleration, all-weather grip, and surprisingly practical 2+2 seating solidified its status as one of the most iconic performance machines of the 21st century.
