Porsche 935 K3 Interscope
REQUIST
A printable PDF document with Photos
Chassis No: 000 00017
One of the most significant 935 from the golden age of IMSA racing. This is
one of the Interscope team cars raced by Danny Ongais and Ted Field. Purchased
new by Ted Field, 00017 had a good year in 1980, placing well in nearly all
the races it took part in. At the Daytona Finale, Danny Ongais qualified on
pole and set the fastest lap in the race. They had 5 podium finishes over
the season. Unlike most other 935s that were raced professionally over many
seasons, this car really only competed for one year at the top of the IMSA
circuit and as a result has not been modified or sustained any damage.

After the 1980 season Interscope ordered a new Kremer K4 and this car was put into storage. In 1982 John Klug purchased the car and then sold it to Teco Almeda for display in his private collection in Europe. It remained on display for18 years!
In September of 2000 the car was purchased by Carlos DeQuesada from the UK brokers Winkligh Garage LTD and returned to the US. After DeQuesada’s first US vintage race the fuel system including the injector pump was completely rebuilt. The next event was the HSR event at Daytona where the car ran without any problems, all mechanical systems were performing flawlessly. To prepare for the first Rennsport Reunion the car underwent a cosmetic restoration and as a result was voted “best 935” at the event.
Steve Goldin purchased the car from DeQuesada in September 2001. Goldin competed in US historic races including Sebring, Road America, and Watkins Glen with HSR. In two seasons of vintage racing the car ran flawlessly and was never damaged competing in approximately 10 events. Just before selling the car the engine was completely rebuilt and currently has only one race weekend of use. In 2007 the car was accepted and competed at the Monterey Historic Automobile races.
Kremer 935K3 Background History
The “K3” (this denoted that it was the 3rd variation of the basic
935) was constructed by the Kremer brothers with a Porsche factory tub supplied
by Porsche. Thirteen K3s were built by Kremer. The most important differences
from other 935s include a 3.2 liter engine, air-to-air intercooler system,
lowered chassis, high down force carbon fiber Kevlar composite body design,
stiffened and extended roll cage, larger KKK turbos, etc. The Kremer Porsche
compression ratio of 7.2:1 and 1.7 bar boost developed 800 bhp at 8,000 rpms.
Even with the boost turned down to 1.4 bar the engine developed 740 bhp at
7800 rpms.
