This car is one of only seven imported to the US in 1989. It is in new condition
with only 8740 miles of use. It was special ordered with Irish Green paint
and it is believed it is the only Club Sport in this color. The car has never
had any damage of any kind. It is totally original and perfect; paint, interior
and mechanicals. Includes factory owners manual and tool kit. This car could
WIN it’s class at a PCA CONCOURS it is that perfect.
The 1987-89 911 Club Sport was produced as a lightweight limited edition. Only 340 units of the M637-designation Club Sport were produced in total over a three-year period. As far as the USA was concerned no cars were imported in 1987, only 22 Club Sports with US Federal emission and safety controls were imported by Porsche Cars North America in 1988, and only six in 1989.
There are two unique aspects to this car: one is its rarity, the other the differences in its specification from the standard Carrera. The Club Sport’s dynamic attributes are based on weight savings, optimized engine performance, and handling, although it is the rarity aspect that really sets it apart from a standard Carrera.
The Carrera Club Sport is a lighter and more powerful car than
the standard Carrera. It was intended for club track days yet it still could
be easily driven on the street. Each car had it’s 3.2L engine blueprinted
at the factory and fitted with hollow stem valves and a reprogrammed chip
allowing for a higher rev limit and creating more power. Stiffer shocks, front
and rear spoilers, and sport seats with unique “Porsche” cloth
upholstery were added.
The Factory took off over 110 lbs. of weight by eliminating the fog lights,
air conditioning, power seats, power windows, back seats, undercoating, and
soundproofing. In addition lightweight carpeting in the passenger compartment
and trunk were utilized for a total weight of only 2558 lb.
The result is blinding performance, 0-60 mph in 5.5 sec. with
a top speed of 149 mph. The engine produced 231 hp at 5900 rpm with 210 ft.
