The ultimate ‘60s cruise and surf
wagon! This pristine example of Ford’s finest
wagon, the Country Squire, was part of the personal collection of
a major Southern California automobile and surfing enthusiast. Always
kept in top condition and ready to go on safari whenever the surf
was up, this wagon sets the pace even with all your boards and buds
on board. Equally at home cruising to the local drive in for a burger
and coke, or showing on the Concours green.
The 1964 Fords played to great critical and popular
acclaim. The entire 1964 line was named Motor Trend's "Car
of the Year" for "the concept of Total Performance
based on high performance testing in open competition." The full-sized
cars received new body styling and enough refinements to make them
arguably the finest Fords of the Sixties.
1964 Ford engines were powerful for their time. The
mighty 390 Thunderbird Special was introduced in 1961 and remained
the basis of all big-block Ford performance engines for years to come.
Essentially, Ford engineers bored and stroked the 352. While horsepower
remained at 300, the 390's torque was increased to 427 pound-feet
at 2,800 rpm.
The full-sized 1964 Ford models were overshadowed in
their own time by the popular Mustang. In recent years, however, these
"forgotten" Fords have become true collectors' items and
original unmolested cars, such as this one, are highly prized.
This wagon was built and delivered in Texas and is in
exceptional original condition with only 96,261 miles of use. It has
been garaged all of its life and the spectacular Palomino interior
shows no signs of sun damage. The body is exceptionally clean and
straight with no evidence of accident damage. All mechanical components
are as factory delivered and in great condition.
This time capsule was ordered new with the optional 300 horsepower 390 engine and Cruise-O-Matic transmission.
In addition it has the following factory options:
Power side and rear windows
Twin Spot Lights
AM/FM radio with rear speaker
Wire Wheel “Spinner” Wheel Covers
