Chassis No. 84185
Of all the Porsches made in the 1950s, Speedsters are certainly the most charismatic. First sold in 1955, the Speedster was conceived for Porsche’s American market as the entry level Porsche. For model year 1956, the entire 356 line under-went mechanical and chassis modifications and the revised and improved car was designated the 356A.
1958 is the last year for the production Speedster, although a handful of GT racing cars were produced in 1959 powered by both the four-cam Carrera engine and the 1600cc Super 90 engine. Only 937 Speedsters were built in 1958.
This particular car has had a complete “nut and bolt” restoration and upgrade to bring it up to Super 90 GT standards. The car looks just like what a ’59 Super 90 GT would have looked like new from the factory. The car includes a Certificate of Authenticity from the Porsche Factory.
These upgrades include:
• GT bumper decos front and rear
• GT louvered rear deck lid
• GT interior
• GT seat frames
• Original Factory GT wood rim steering wheel
• GT roll bar
• GT hood straps
• GT style gas filler extension through hood.
• GT 8,000 RPM tach and 160MPH speedometer
• Early 550 Spyder/GT front brakes with ventilated backing plates
• Rear ventilated GT backing plates
• Deletion of side trim and lower rocker moldings as per GT
• Addition of Carrera scripts
• GT ignition and fuel pump switches added on dash
• Modified 912 engine
• Custom Sebring Carrera exhaust system
