The Porsche 959 was by far the most technologically
advanced sportscar when it was introduced in 1985. Porsche built only
226 of these supercars between 1987 and 1988. Their timeless design,
state-of-the-art systems, and superior driving characteristics make
them still one of the greatest sports cars of all time. Only
29 cars were built with the Sport package which featured
a full roll cage, Sport seats with racing seat belts, and a race tuned
suspension.
These cars are highly sought after and don’t
come on the market that often. A Canepa Design 959 is very rare, and
the S version is unheard of.

History
An American enthusiast living in Germany purchased this
car in Frankfurt Germany in 1990. The car was serviced at the Porsche
Factory and kept at a Hamburg Porsche dealership’s collector
car showroom. It was only driven on weekend trips for the next eight
years, never driven in the winter or in bad weather. The car was regularly
maintained with the custom AM/FM/CD with remote Pioneer GMX 802 Amp
as the only update performed.
Recently the car was imported to the US and entrusted
to Canepa Design for the Federal certification process. The car is
now fully US certified with all Factory recomended services performed
and ready for the road.
The car received the Canepa Phase I engine upgrade and
a cosmetic restoration and a full detail. Fuel lines were upgraded
to accommodate modern fuel. Wheels were refinished in matt titianium
and fitted with new Michelin Pilot Sport tires. The Canepa suspension
upgrade was also installed which includes new custom shocks with titanium
springs. A special “WerksI” steering wheel was also installed.
The car was then fully detailed and is now in concours condition.
Canepa Design was instrumental in the passing of the
“show and display” legislation, which allows these sought
after vehicles to be driven in the United States for the first time.
In addition, Canepa Design has invested five years of research and
development to bring this awesome supercar to a new level of performance
including California and Federal emissions compliance.
Phase I Engine Upgrade
An extensive engineering and development process included a new engine
management system and converting the factory sequential turbo system
with a Garrett Air Research twin turbo system. Upgraded fuel system,
EGR, modern engine management system, F1 technology engine wiring
harnesses, high output ignition system, upgraded alternator charge
system and battery module, air pumps and air regulator valves, spark
plugs, idle control valve, sensors, connectors, harness shielding,
switches, adapters, hardware, etc. (369 components in all.) A complete
new stainless steel exhaust system with dual stainless Porsche factory
catalytics are utilized.
Canepa Design has re-engineered the factory wheels and
developed a new bead design and modification which allows the installation
of today’s state-of-the-art high performance ‘Z’
rated radial tires. Additional benefits include greatly improved handling
and grip and an overall improved appearance.
Additional Canepa Upgrades

strut design and titanium coil-over springs.
