The Porsche Factory only built 36 914-6 GTs for racing
in the early 1970’s, since then the mystique of the GT has grown
to become one of the most collectable Porsches today. If the Porsche
factory had continued the development of the 914-6 beyond its three-year
production run the result would have been a car such as this. The
mid engine layout of the 914 coupled with a 250 HP 911 engine, Turbo
brakes, and racing suspension raises the performance level of this
car to the highest levels. An outstanding track car as well as a true
grand touring car.
This car started life as a 1973 914 four that had the
good fortune to be owned by Jack Kuhn, a very enthusiastic PCA member
avid autocrosser and vintage racer. Kuhn kept the car spotless and
set it up for autocross and time trial competition. 914-6 brakes,
Weltmiester suspension, and a competition roll bar were installed
resulting in a very competitive car.
Ralph Borelli purchased the car from Kuhn in the mid
1990’s. Borelli wanted to create the ultimate 914. The idea
was to create a 914-6 that the factory would have built if development
had continued. Nothing on the car was left untouched and over $100,000
was spent to create this one of a kind 914-6 “GT”. The
new 3.4 liter engine was built by Retro Sport and has only run four
test sessions at Laguna Seca. The new transmission has only 500 miles
of street use.
