1965 Shelby 427 Cobra
Chassis No.: CSX 3112
REQUeST A printable PDF document with Photos
Shelby American only produced 260 427 Cobra street cars, this car is an early example with a true 427 engine and rectangular tail lights (later cars had the 428 Police Interceptor engine and round tail lights). It is in perfect as delivered specification and has not been modified as many cars have with side pipes and a hood scoop.
This particular car was delivered to Shelby in gray primer with a black interior on 1/11/66 with work order number 18093. It was finished on 3/4/66 and thought to be painted “Charcoal” at the time. Shelby invoice number A 2656 dated 3/16/66 indicated the car was shipped to Herb Tousley Ford, Inc. (White Lake MN). The first known owner was Harvey Vance (Enic, OK) who acquired it used. He swapped it for a ’65 GT350 and cash to Jay Schaff. In 1968 Shaff traded it for a Corvette and cash in Oklahoma. Vance bought it back from its new owner shortly there after. The next reported owners were John O’Neill (MO) and Frank Bernardino (Richmond VA). In 1974 the car was purchased by Bill Godden (TN) and then sold again in 1974 to Dan Homelier (Urbana, IL). At that time the car was red with a black leather interior. In 1975 the engine was rebuilt and then the car was sold to Dealer Leo Gephardt (OH). Gephardt sold 3112 to well known Cobra enthusiasts Peter McManus (PA). At the time of his purchase the car remained red with black interior, stock condition, Sunburst wheels and a single 4V on a sidewinder intake manifold. The car was purchased from McManus by Randy Holt (Lakewood, WA) in 2004.
Although the car was in extremely well preserved original condition, a full “nut and bolt” cosmetic and mechanical restoration was performed bringing the car back to as delivered condition. Hoyt showed the car at SAAC-30 in Riverside scoring 858 points in the concours. The car comes complete with the original side curtains, top and bows, jack and tools.
