Bentley has always made emphatic style statements without shouting. The 2005 Continental GT upholds this tradition, with its muscular front end and flowing fender lines that evoke earlier Continentals. Seen from the side, the GT looks as though it were cast from one metal ingot.

This particular Continental GT was the personal car of a prominent automotive collector. It has been extremely well cared for and with only 8500 miles of use is in AS NEW condition. The car is finished in the best color combination for a Bentley, Cypress Green exterior with New Market Tan leather and Dark Burr walnut dash.

Canepa Design Upgrades
The suspension has been custom tuned and lowered to improve handling without sacrificing the superb ride characteristics of the standard GT. Mulliner 19” wheels have been installed which not only improve cornering performance but also enhance the muscular styling of the car. The front grill and lower air intakes have been refinished in mat Cypress Green to create a unique Monochromatic look for the car.

The Continental GT is the first model to come from the new Bentley Motor Cars, Ltd., the new company that was formed on September 17, 2002, ending a 70-year partnership with Rolls Royce. Unveiled in concept form at the 2002 Paris Motor Show, the new model is smaller and less expensive than any past Bentley, but its design remains true to the marque. It is also the first model unique to the Bentley line to be produced in over 70 years, and the first Bentley ever to feature all-wheel drive.

Besides its inherent cachet, much of the excitement is over this Bentley’s 552-horsepower engine and 198 mph top speed. The power on hand in the Continental GT is so addictive that it should come with a warning label. The 6.0-liter, twin-turbo W12, coupled with standard all-wheel drive, offers acceleration comparable to a jet plane upon takeoff.

Thankfully, the all-wheel drive and a sublime six-speed clutchless manual transmission keep the 552 horses and 479 pound-feet of torque under control. Volkswagen created the W12 engine architecture — so called because of its 12 staggered cylinders positioned in a “W” but Bentley tuned the engine to its satisfaction.

The transmission can be used like an automatic. Manual mode allows the driver to shift with paddles behind the steering wheel or by tapping the center-console shift lever forward and back. The Continental GT’s potent engine offers instantaneous power at virtually any speed.

Steering is speed-sensitive and well weighted. At parking-lot speeds it’s light, requiring little more than fingertips to maneuver the car. And the Continental GT has a surprisingly tight turning circle. At higher speeds the steering tightens considerably, helping the car feeling extremely stable on the highway.
On any road, the Continental GT is whisper-quiet. But serenity is easily disrupted with bursts of acceleration bringing acoustic fireworks — a mix of V12 wail and V8 rumble.

Buttery smooth leather, lacquered wood trim, chrome and aluminum vents and handles. The Continental GT is a very luxurious car with an interior to match. Unlike other ultra-luxury vehicles there are no complex operating systems to decipher. Ride height and suspension tuning can be accessed with a few buttons and a large screen mounted in the center of the dash. The same screen displays everything from satellite navigation to fan speeds, interior temperature settings and even tire pressure. The trunk has a generous 13 cubic feet of volume and easily swallowed a week’s worth of luggage
