The F40 is considered by many to be the true embodiment of a supercar. The last vehicle commissioned by Enzo Ferrari before his death. The F40 was created as a celebration to show the world that Ferrari after 40 years in business was still the car to beat. The plan was simple; create a vehicle that combined all of Ferrari’s best technology into a no-frills racecar for the street, displayed in a beautiful body. With the focus on aerodynamics for the F40’s speed, and stability favored over terminal velocity. The F40 with its 471hp was the fastest production car of its time. Enzo Ferrari had done what he set out to do, beat the Porsche 959.
To achieve Enzo’s dream Pininfarina created an entirely new design using Kevlar, Carbon Fiber, and Aluminum for high strength and low weight, and the use of plastic side windows and rear windows, no carpets, sound system, or door handles to further reduce weight. The F40 came in at only 1100 kg (2400 lb). Intense aerodynamic testing was used to get the low frontal area with spoiler and the rear wing to work in junction with the partial under tray to smooth airflow beneath the radiator, front section and cabin, and a second one with air diffusers behind the motor gave the F40 an impressively low Cd of 0.34. The overall result of Pininfarina’s design is one of the most aggressive and beautiful cars of all time.
The heart of the F40 is the enlarged 2.9 liter twin turbo charged V8 taken from the 288 GTO. It was further developed under racing conditions as the powerplant for the Lancia Group C Le Mans prototype race cars between 1983 and 1985. The F40 took that success to the next level with 471 hp and 426 lb feet of torque. The result produced 0-60 times in 3.8 sec. and a top speed of 201 mph. making it the fastest production carin the world at that time.
To drive the F40, is to drive a visceral dream. With double wishbone suspension at all four corners, gated 5 speed transmission, 17x8 in front and 17x13 rear alloy wheels, and 471 hp rewards the driver who is willing to test its limits. One turn of the key tells you this is like no other car. This was Enzo Ferrari’s swan song, the car he made for the true enthusiasts. Made by the man who brought passion to the art form of the automobile, with all the World Championships and victories from the Mille Miglia to LeMans, the F40 was created to let the world know there is no other car quite like a Ferrari.
The F40 presented here has only 3400 miles of easy use and has never seen the track; the original tires are still on the vehicle! All the original books and tools come with the vehicle. This F40 has been in the hands of only two owners since new, and always serviced at the same dealer, both collectors are well known for the care and perfect treatment of their vehicles.
Canepa Design has gone to great lengths to take this F40 to the next level of perfection. A complete inspection of all mechanical and cosmetic elements of the car was performed. All services have been done including a full factory 15,000 major service (factory recommended based on time not miles). The car has been fully detailed to the highest Concours level in our “state-of-the-art” facility. This vehicle is ready to drive or add to your museum.
This is one of the best F40 in the world, and a true work of art!
