This spectacular Speedster was delivered new to Southern California and has never left the state. It is totally rust free, 100% original factory steel and has never been in an accident. The car was owned by a well-known automobile enthusiast in the film industry and was always well maintained and pampered.

In 1982 he commissioned famed Porsche restoration expert Angelo Pino to perform a complete mechanical and cosmetic restoration on the car to full Concours perfection. At the time Pino was also restoring a second Speedster. The two cars went through the process side by side and were completed to the absolute highest standard! The bodywork and paint was taken care of by master painter Jr. Conway. The panel fit and door gaps are absolutely perfect. The interior was completely restored using all factory correct materials by 356 expert Roy Nielsen. The 1600N engine was blueprinted and balanced and assembled with all new parts, it performs more like a Super 90 than a Normal.

When both cars were complete they were absolutely stunning and virtually identical. The owner of this car did not want to show his car but the owner of the sister car did. That car was taken to the Porsche Parade and won the Manhattan Award, the most coveted prize of all Porsche Concours.

Within a year after the car was restored it was sold to a major west coast collector and it has remained in his private collection to this day. It has only been driven a few miles each year and treated to the best of care. In 2004 the car was taken to Speedster Fest in Monterey California for display only. It was the general consensus by spectators and experts alike that this was one of the finest examples at the show.

This is one of only 937 Speedsters produced in 1958, the last year of production for the model. 1958 was also a milestone year for Porsche as a number of important improvements were incorporated in the cars. They include a stronger steering box, improved steering joints, stronger front spindles, improved transmission and upgraded engines. In addition to all these developments, this particular car has been upgraded to a 12V electric system, improving starting performance and allowing the use of higher output headlights.

About the Speedster
Convertibles were offered by Porsche from the start, and in the early 1950's sometimes comprised over 50% of total production. The best-known convertible model is the 356 "Speedster", introduced in late 1954 after Max Hoffman, the sole US importer of Porsches, advised the company that a lower-cost, open-top version could sell well in the American market. With its low, raked windshield (which could be removed for weekend racing), bucket seats and minimal folding top, the Speedster was an instant hit, especially in Southern California. Production of the Speedster peaked at 1,171 cars in 1957 and then started to decline. It was replaced in 1959 by the "Convertible D" model.
