1927 Ford “Track T” Roadster
REQUeST A printable PDF document with Photos
This unique “Track T” was created as personal project by famed Hot Rodder Jake Yenny. It was designed not only look great but also to have outstanding performance. Yenny blended the vintage track roadster look with modern technology giving the 1700 lb rod racecar handling and blinding performance.
Track Roadsters were originally built 1940s as oval track racers. Racers would put a lightweight Model T body on more powerful Model A running gear and remove everything that was not essential for racing creating a very light nimble race car. Power usually came from the 4-cylinder Model A Ford engine.
Yenny also utilized an all steel Model T body, channeling it over a custom fabricated boxed frame rails. The frame consists of 1.5 X 3 inch 120 wall tubing, 14 inches of 1928 front frame horns, and a Model T rear cross member. The frame horns were mounted upside down creating a low under slung chassis. A four-inch drop tube axle with ’42 ford spindles and early Ford Lockheed front drum brakes complete front end. At the rear a ’42 Ford pickup rear end is mated to a Model T spring, custom radius rods, Panhard bar and tube shocks. The finished chassis rolls on a set of original Ford steel wheels, 16x4 in front and 16x4.5 in the back.
The engine is also a 4 cylinder, but it is a very modern 200 horsepower Olds Quad 4 twin cam! The intake system has been modified to accept Carter YH Corvette carbs and the one off exhaust system sounds just like an Offy! The engine is coupled to a GM T5 five-speed transmission with ratios that allow for great performance off the line and comfortable highway cruising.
The interior features custom stitched dark oxblood seats, reworked Model T dash with Stewart Warner gauges and a Bell steering wheel. There is plenty of room for tall drivers.
After the completing the car it was featured at Blackie’s 2006 Fresno Autorama. Yenny entered the car in the 2006 Grand National Roadster show and won his class. It was also pictured in the Street Rodder’s Grand National Roadster Show article in the June 2006 issue. Street Rodder ran a full feature article on the car in the August 2006 issue.
