Second Porsche 962 Built by the Factory

The Porsche 962 (also known as the 962C in international competition) was built by Porsche as a replacement for the 956 and designed mainly to comply with IMSA's GTP regulations, which required the drivers feet to be behind the the centerline of the front axle. The 962 was introduced at the end of 1984, and quickly became successful having a remarkably long-lived career, with some examples still proving competitive into the mid-1990s.

Porsche incorporated cutting edge technologies in the 956/962 such as ground effect aerodynamics and a full monocoque chassis. In total, Porsche would produce Fifty Seven 962s and 35 spare tubs between 1984 and 1991. Sixteen were officially used by the factory team, the remainder were sold to customers.

Jacky Ickx
Ickx was born in Belgium and competed at the highest levels of the sport with great success. He has won the 24 Hours of Le Mans six times, mostly in Porsches. Driving for Ferrari, McLaren, Lotus, and Williams in Formula One, he scored eight victorys and 25 podium finishes. He was Can-Am champion in 1979 and won the Paris-Dakar Rally in 1983.

Jochen Mass
German born Mass competed in both sports cars and Formula One. He won the 24 hours of Le Mans for Porsche in 1989. He won the 1975 Spanish Grand Prix and has eight podium finishes to his credit. He won the European Touring Car Championship in 1972.
