Constructed with a 110 lb. aluminum tube space frame, ultra lightweight fiberglass body, magnesium and titanium suspension components, and powered by a twin-turbo 5.4 liter flat 12-cylinder air-cooled engine, the 917/10’s power to weight ratio was second to none. Power was fed through a Porsche 4-speed transaxle with titanium half shafts and 15 inch diameter Fuchs magnesium wheels (12 inch wide front, 19 inch. wide rear). Ready to race, the car carried 75 gallons of gas in twin side mounted tanks.

This car was located in Sweden in 1991 and eventually purchased in 1997 by Bruce Canepa. It was in as-raced condition and considered one of the most original 917’s in existence. Canepa and his team of craftsmen completely restored the car back to factory original specification. This car is one of only twelve 917/10’s built by the Porsche factory.

Tim Schenken
In addition to his Interserie success, Australian Schenken also raced in Formula One with Williams, Brabham, and Surtees. He competed in the World Sports Car Championship with Ferrari and Porsche winning at the Nürburgring in 1977.

Gelo Racing Team
